Meter

The rhythm of a piece of poetry, determined by the number and length of feet in a line.

itis important to poetry because it a piece of poetry and it makes it sound beter and the reader can understand it

Rhyme

Correspondence of sound between words or the endings of words, esp. when these are used at the ends of lines of poetry.
"Yes, the zebra is fine.
But I think it's a shame,
Such a marvelous beast
With a cart that's so tame.
it is important to poetry because it corresponds with each stanza and how poetry is supposed to be.

Rhythm

Rhythm: A strong, regular, repeated pattern of movement or sound.
example: 
roses are red violets are blue.
Rhythm is important to poetry because it makes the stanza sound nice.

Onomatopoeia

Onomatopoeia is formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named 
example of Onomatopoeia: 
Knock knock jokes are examples of Onomatopoeia.
Onomatopoeia is important to poetry because it makes poetry better and can make you acually understand it better

Personification

The attribution of a personal nature or human characteristics to something nonhuman
The stars danced playfully in the moonlit sky
Personification is using a character to represent an abstract idea. Abstract ideas are hard for a lot of people to understand

 

Imagery

Visually descriptive or figurative language
My work is mainly inspired by old advertising imagery, naive drawings and textile design
Imagery creates a vivid image by playing on the senses

Simile

Simile is when you compare two nouns (persons, places or things) that are unlike, with "like" or "as."
Your teeth are like stars;
They come out at night.
They come back at dawn
When they’re ready to bite.
Good similes compare two very different nouns

repetition

Repetition of a sound, syllable, word, phrase, line, stanza, or metrical pattern is a basic unifying device in all poetry.
To avoid repetition these have been extracted to a separate page.
Repetition is an important part of peotry because it is all of the main parts of poetry.

tone

Tone refers to the feeling of the poem.
The boy walked across the street scared for his life.
Tone is important beacuase it tells the reader how the character in the stanza feels and the reader can relate to it.

interpretation

 Interpretation is to give or provide the meaning of a poem to the reader.
in ohh captain my captain you could think of abraham licoln as anyone
iterpretation is important in L.A. because it helps the readers know the meaning of the stanza.

metaphor

 is a literary figure of speech that describes a subject by asserting that it is and on some point of comparison.
Her house was like a prison,we couldn't do anything
It is important to L.A. because it shows some understanding and comparison.

speaker means the way the poem sounds and how it makes you feel. Symbol

A Symbol is something that represents and idea. One figure holds up a large lock a potent symbol of the towns premier industry. Symbols are a way of talking about things for which we have no words.

Couplet

A couplet is a pair of lines of meter in poetry. Alexander pope in the 18th century perfected a form of heroic couplets. It is an important part of poerty because it is how people can understand the poem better. It makes poetry better because it also helps people understand it and make it sounds better.
A stanza: is a unit within a large poem. It is an important part of poetry because a stanza is a paragraph in writing and is always used.it adds a new paragraph to the poem.it makes it better because it organizes its ideas.
